Lidstrom is a finalist for the Norris Trophy for the ninth time in the past 10 seasons, leading all NHL defensemen in scoring in 2007-08 with 70 points (10 goals, 60 assists) in 76 games and ranking second in the NHL to teammate Pavel Datsyuk in plus-minus (+40). He ranked fourth among all players in average ice time per game (26:43). Lidstrom suffered a sprained right knee at Colorado Feb. 18 and missed six games -- the longest absence of his career. He returned with two assists in 4-3 win over Nashville on March 9.
Lidstrom has played 16 NHL seasons, all with Detroit, and is one of just four players to appear in 1,000 games as a Red Wing (1,252), joining franchise legends Gordie Howe (1,687), Alex Delvecchio (1,549) and Steve Yzerman (1,514). He has tallied 938 career points (212 goals, 726 assists), ranking second among active defensemen in assists behind teammate Chris Chelios.
The Red Wings captain is appearing in his 16th consecutive playoffs, a franchise record. Lidstrom eclipsed the mark of Steve Yzerman, who played in 15 consecutive postseasons with Detroit from 1991-2006. In Game 5 of Detroit's first-round playoff series vs. Nashville, Lidstrom moved past Yzerman for most career post-season games played in Red Wings history. Entering the Stanley Cup Final, Lidstrom has played 208 career postseason games with Detroit. Yzerman appeared in 196 playoff contests.
